MEP Alícia Homs has asked Comissioner-designate Margaritis Schinas to defend the rights of young Europeans for them to be able to get quality and qualified jobs. She has raised this demand in her question in the hearing that has examined Schinas’ candidacy to Commissioner.
Balearic socialist MEP Alícia Homs has been elected Vice-Chair for Biodiversity and Ocean Literacy of the Searica intergoup for seas, rivers, islands and coastal zones. Homs has highlighted the “determinant role” that should Searica play in making European institutions understand the specific necessities of islands.

It is estimated that the impact of the bankruptcy of touroperator Thomas Cook reaches 3.000 million Euro in the Canary Islands, 6% of the reigonal GDP. Its effects will also be severe of the Balearic Islands’ economy. In order to deal with these kind of crises, the EU has mechanisms such as the European Fund for Adaptation to Globalisation.
